Physical therapy should not just be about getting better. It should include a process to get your patients HEALTHIER than they were when you started.
Following 5 key elements advocated by The APHPT can help guide us in getting EVERY patient that we interact with HEALTHIER, whether only for an evaluation or for longer lengths of care.
Let's continue with Element #2: FUEL
Nutrition is the area of health that physical therapists have difficulty implementing because they feel they arenโt qualified to speak on the topic. Listen - PTs are not registered dieticians so we cannot prescribe a nutritional plan. But we can DEFINITELY teach the basics and show how proper hydration and nutrition impact our health and bodies. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ง
Eating healthy and having plenty of water also helps our rehab outcomes. So it is a double BONUS!! It also helps complement Element 1 MOVE and Element 3 RECOVER.๐๐ป๐๐ป๐ค๐ป
But make sure you and the patient are realistic. Enjoy some guilty pleasures but always outweighs those with the good stuff! ๐ฅ๐ฅ>๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐บ
